Necromanteion of Acheron

The most important and oldest necromanteion is the Necromanteion of Acheron.
The ancient Necromanteion of Acheron is located near Kanallaki, in the village of Mesopotamos, in the Preveza Regional Unit, at the point where the Acheron River meets the Cocytus and Pyriphlegethon rivers, on the northwestern shores of Lake Acherusia, which was believed to be the entrance to the world of souls.

The Acheron River Mouth in Ammoudia is a place of exceptional natural beauty. Where the “mythical” river meets the Ionian Sea, the landscape becomes serene, with calm waters, lush vegetation, and a sense of peace that instantly captivates visitors.

The area is ideal for walking, boat trips, or simply relaxing and enjoying the surrounding nature.

According to ancient Greek mythology, the Acheron River in Epirus is associated with the passage of souls to the Underworld.

From its springs to its mouth, the river offers a wide range of enjoyable experiences and activities for its many summer visitors.

According to tradition, Saint Paraskevi was martyred at the Holy Monastery of Agia Paraskevi of Pounta. In the right aisle of the katholikon (main church) lies her tomb, where the faithful buried her headless body after her beheading.

Next to the tomb, the large oval stone has been preserved, upon which Saint Paraskevi was supported at the moment of her execution.

Zalongo and Ancient Kassope are two closely connected and iconic archaeological and historical landmarks of Epirus, near Preveza. Kassope, an important ancient city with panoramic views and strong fortifications, is built on the slopes of Mount Zalongo, a mountain associated with the heroic Holocaust of the Souliotes in 1803. Together, they offer a unique combination of ancient history and modern national memory.

Ancient Nicopolis, located 6–10 km north of Preveza, is the largest ancient city in Greece.

The Nicopolis Archaeological Museum (NAM) is dedicated exclusively to Nicopolis, the city founded by Octavian to commemorate his victory at the Battle of Actium in 31 BC. With the central theme “One naval battle, one city, one empire,” the museum presents the history of this great city in a clear and accessible way to the general public.

Beaches

Loutsa – Vrachos
It is one of the most impressive and longest beaches in Epirus. It forms a continuous coastline with Vrachos Beach, stretching approximately 4–6 kilometers in total. It features crystal-clear turquoise waters and fine golden sand.

The largest and most popular beach in the area, stretching for approximately 3 kilometers. It offers a wide variety of beach bars, restaurants, and water sports. It is easily accessible on foot from the castle or by boat from the port.
